Confirmation & Baptism on Feast of St. Wilfrid'sby Bishop Lindsay Urwin
Two Rights and a Wrong! - Bishop Lindsay joins for St Wilfrid's Day! On Sunday 12th October, it was a pleasure and delight to welcome the Bishop of Horsham, the Right Reverend Lindsay Urwin to our Patronal Eucharist to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. There were 6 candidates presented to Bishop Lindsay for Confirmation; four from St Wilfrid's and two from All Saints Wick, in the Littlehampton Team Ministry. The candidates from St Wilfrid's were Joanne Ansell, Robert Philips (also baptised), James Smith and Hazel Wager. It was highly appropriate to welcome the Bishop of Horsham, as an heir to St Wilfrid's to join us for our Patronal Eucharist before his impending move to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. In his address, Bishop Lindsay spoke about the life of St Peter who in the appointed Gospel for the service did two rights and a wrong thing before God. After falling short of the promise, Peter was prepared to follow Jesus ' call and Bishop Lindsay reminded us that every of us has to chose to respond to the call of God. Bishop Lindsay spoke about the pressures and temptations of the modern life (even confessing to reading Just Seventeen to keep in touch with youth culture!) . On behalf of the Church, each newly confirmed person received a card from the parish and a Book of prayers to remind them of the commission by Bishop Lindsay to rooted in prayer for their spiritual lives. After the service, Bishop Lindsay joined us in the hall for an excellent spread of food put together by Anne Latter and the Wives Group. If anyone has any photographs from the service, please could you email them to Adam May
