All the work behind the scenes, all the time spent planning, asking and ringing reaped a rich reward as first on Friday 23rd April, the Bishop of Chichester and then on Sunday 25th, the Bishop of Hereford came to the Parish church of Bognor Regis to celebrate 100 years of St. Wilfrid. They acknowledge the devotion and spiritual mission that has continued over this time. The generations that have gone before have ensured that we, the present generation have a thriving church and a mission of which we can be proud. The pomp and prestige that both bishops brought to our church was uplifting. ‘I knew how important it was to appreciate our good fortune as a Parish to be able to worship in such a vibrant place. …there was a sense of something special’ according to Christine Harris – member of the congregation.

‘It was wonderful to see so many friends and we are grateful for their support. The two services together provided an incredible, moving and spiritual event in the life of the church’, commented Jean Rose. The Friday service was followed by a finger buffet, which provided the opportunity for old friends to catch with their latest news. It was chance to rub shoulders with the VIPs. Among them were the Deputy County Lieutenant Roger Turner and his wife and Nick Gibb MP for Bognor and Littlehampton since 1997. The Sunday congregation sat down to a Parish lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding followed by apple crumble or strawberry trifle. Judging from the laughter coming from the top table Bishop Anthony Priddis and his wife appeared to be enjoying the moment.
